Yongjoon Choe / CEO

lululab’s CEO, Yongjoon Choe, received his B.A. in Bio Engineering from Cornell University. Later on, he started working with skin data while studying at Harvard Medical Hospital. During his studies, he discovered that there was a huge gap between the growth of the beauty market and related usage of technology. While skin serves as the main indicator of people’s health, there was no way to check for impending facial skin troubles or objectively measure the seriousness of already-existing problems. That is why he made LUMINI with core members of Samsung. To accurately measure and analyze skin, and recommend personalized skincare lines through full usage of skin data, our AI skincare assistant was born out of Samsung C-lab.
Lulu means ‘an outstanding example of a particular type of person or thing,’ and we wanted to make a ‘lulu’ and be a ‘lulu.’ It is also a term that represents happiness and joy, so it conveys our team’s ambition to make users happy by helping them feel more beautiful everyday with devices that pleasantly fit into their lifestyles.
lululab is the 22nd company to officially spin off from Samsung Electronics. In 2015, lululab began as an internal project at Samsung, executed through its new internal acceleration program, C-Lab. In March 2017, after only about a year of incubation, lululab officially spun off from Samsung with its outstanding performance.
